What is RPM?
A method that gives nonspeaking children a voice
Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) was developed by Soma Mukhopadhyay for nonspeaking and minimally verbal autistic individuals. Using letterboards, stencils, and keyboards, RPM gives learners a way to spell out their thoughts — and for many families, it unlocks a world they never knew existed.
RPM assumes competence. It treats every nonspeaking person as an intelligent individual with things to say. And time and again, when given the right tools and support, they prove it.
“I always had things to say. I just needed a way to say them.”
— A speller, as told through a letterboard
