About Kathy

I am a physical therapist and parent to a child who typed with me in 1993. I hold a Master's in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science, with my main focus being the neurology behind all supported typing methods. I am a certified trainer for FCT and have studied RPM, S2C, and Spellers Method extensively. I am particularly skilled at breaking down the "why" when problem-solving challenges with typing. I recently completed a book on the neurologic theory underlying supported typing — In Their Words... A Documentary Novel. I am newly based in the Idyllwild area (Inland Empire / Palm Springs region) and actively seeing clients in person and virtually.

Facilitated Communication Training (FCT) is a supported typing approach focused on the motor and neurological underpinnings of communication. FCT trainers work with nonspeaking individuals and their support teams to develop independent communication through letterboards and keyboards.
